Traithlon Training Programs

posted about 1 year ago | Report

Hey everyone...I am just starting to train for a sprint triathlon and am getting close to the distances I think I need to be at for training but not really sure. Does anyone have a good program they recommend? I am currently swimming 1/4 mile (with some breathing breaks inbetween pool laps) 10 miles biking and 4 miles running. Also curious if there is any triathlon distance between the spring and 70.3 tris? I just completed my first brick workout this weekend with the 10m bike/4m run and felt fairly comfortable with it.

Any other great tips for a newbie would be appreciated and always looking for motivational friends!!

  • Hi Alicia,

Good on you for deciding to train for a triathlon. I started 2 years ago and am COMPLETELY HOOKED!

I recommend you join www.trainingpeaks.com. It's free and it can create an ATP (Annual Training Plan) according to your strengths and weaknesses. Good luck :)

  • Congrats on the challenge of Multi-sports. As for the Sprint I just did them without any type of training plan just allowing my body to get use to the Motions.

Since I started in 2008 with 2 legs of a Sprint only because our runner was late so I took off running. I was hooked.

2011 I completed two 70.3 one of the plans was from the Triathlete Magazine called the super Simple half. On the 2nd one I used a plan form the Beginner Triathlete this one I picked the wrong one bit off more than I could chew really got burned out.

I am currently working on my 3rd 70.3 for the Harvest Moon Long Race Festival in September. I got this plan from Jim Hallberg and he is with the Join the Jim. http://www.jointhejim.com/

This work out is a little different than what I have used but in the month I have start I can really feel the difference.

Consist of 1week of bike focus with runs and swims , the next week will be mix of all 3, the week after Run focus with bike and swims, them a recovery week.

I have found that I can't wait for the next workout.

    Good Luck and Happy Training
