I thought I read that pool running only works for a few weeks before you lose a lot of your running fitness. I would stick to swimming if you are wanting to get the most fitness from your workout. If you can bike that might be more helpful for your running fitness. Hope you heal soon.

me- I hate pool running and would much rather swim. Swimming is better for overall fitness- but isn't going to help your running much. Find something else to use your leg muscles that your hip can handle. Perhaps an elliptical trainer or cycling.
