I've had similar experiences when in big training periods (I usually focused on volume and not intensity). The deeper in to these periods I got, the harder it was to get my heart rate up. On countless rides I'd struggle to get my HR to even 120 or so. Don't know why this happens but I think it's fairly common.

Oh, just about everyone that was not a bike racer first. Very normal to lose the legs before the lungs and heart in a sport that you have not peaked out in. Stay with it, and work on strenght building for biking, and it will come together faster. You will know when you get there, your HR's biking will be very close to your running ones. Good luck...

I am going through the same thing. I am a strong cyclist and have no problem on 4.5 hour rides with tons of hill climbing. However, when it comes to intervals, I can get into Z4 but Z5 feels impossible. Not a problem on a run. Is it fitness, or weakness?
