Introducing myself!

posted 4 months ago | Report

Hi all! New to DM - fairly new to running. Started last April training for a Warrior Dash that hubby and all his friends signed up for - and stuck with the running. Ran some 5ks in the fall, and am now entering my first winter as a runner in upstate NY. Still trying to find the right winter gear. Logging 10-15 miles a week, slowly increasing. Running the Providence RnR 1/2 Marathon 3 days after my 30th birthday in August.

Looking for friends to encourage each other!

  • There is nothing like the feeling of running your first half marathon. I ran my first half marathon back in 2009 and enjoyed every minute of it. Good luck to you. http://runningtipsforbeginners.com

  • I'm new here too and I just turned 30 in October! Good luck with training this winter. We've got snow here in Seattle and that's making it tough to get out there and run. FR sent. :)

  • Welcome to dailymile! You've got a ambitious plan for your races, I like it!

  • Sounds like we have some similar goals. I am hoping to run a half marathon this year as well! Good luck! :)

  • Cold weather running is a lot easier than running in the hot humid conditions of summer, dress in layers and you will be fine. Here we have not seen very much snow so far so it has not been an issue.

It's a work in progress - today was my 2nd really COLD run..warm up top, cold down below. I need to break out my new UA base layer. And hat..always, the headband isn't cutting it these days.

  • Welcome Meaghan! I am also training for a half marathon - challenging when the weather is cold, that's for sure, but received some nice base layer gear for Christmas!

  • I'm north of Pittsburgh Meaghan, so I understand about the winter. I, however, prefer to run in the cooler weather than warmer weather any day! Welcome!

  • Looks like you are about on my schedule. Plan to run my second half in October.....logging about 10 - 15 miles per week and will slowly let that climb.

By the way, you may be the only other Meaghan that I've seen that spells her name the way my sister does.

  • Good for you Meaghan, in sticking with the running. Winter is such a dead zone for its lack of races or group runs, but DM is good for whatever you might need. As far as gear, I've always worn shorts in all seasons, but decided this was finally the year for long pants (I doubt this is helpful to you, but just sharing!). Welcome...FR on the way.

  • run and train at your own pace. I got caught up in the miles and the distance and now i am injured with hamstring tendonitis. It wiped out the 3 halfs I was training for in jan, feb, and march.

I can't believe how mild our NY winter is currently..today was 50 and tomorrow is forecasted to be about 55...I love that I can wear my crops still! And haven't had to use the TM yet...am hoping that I can avoid it altogether and cancel my gym membership...it's the only reason right now I'm holding on to it.

I'm fairly new to DM, too but I notice we have similar running history and goals. I ran a Warrior Dash last May and have my 2nd this May. I love them!! I'd also love to do a half this year but I also love triathlons so tri training gets in the way of increasing mileage for a while each summer. I'll get there someday! Sending FR
