they are two different workouts and their paces don't match up. I'd base it more on intensity - did the ellitpiical feel much easier or harder than the run?

So many variables. Where are you running and how far? How much resistance is on the elliptical? Which do you do more often (conditioning the muscles for a particular activity). All these things and more can change pace. Calories burned might be a closer comparison, but still not perfect.

sounds like it's an old elliptical that isn't calibrated correctly. so many factors can play into this like the resistance you set the machine at. The gym I used to belong to had some machines that were real dogs they never calibrated so they were way off.
