  • lol...yep. I actually turned 50 this year and decided I wanted to be a runner....always have been active, but thought I just did not have "running coordination":) Had to prove to myself that age is just a number......what I've learned especially from going to race events is that runners come in all shapes, sizes, ages, experience levels etc etc....some are fast, some are slower..some in between....I've learned it is a sport for everyone and anyone who wants to try.....

  • Turned 50 last year. My doc told me there's a difference between "thin" and "in-shape" and that there are plenty of thin people with bypass surgery and that her professional medical advice was that I should "get off my ass." Ran for the first time in 34 the next day. Slowly and with alarmingly bad form, but running nonetheless.
    Sent you a FR. Cheers.

  • I'm kind of a new runner. Prior to 12 months or so ago I'd never run since being at school - when I was a sprinter. Started running again a little over a year ago just before I hit 50 but had a few injury problems along the way. Recently completed the couch to 5k program for the second time (to get me back into the swing of things) and now I'm trying to build up to 10k. I call myself Captain_Slow because I'm not very quick on my feet but I love getting out in the fresh air, jogging. FR;s most welcome! :)

  • Nothing serious or consistent prior to 45. Now am 46....completed a half and a couple of 10's. Full marathon in the works. Then???? I'm just getting younger [I keep telling myself!]. BTW, crossed paths with a woman out running this morning, she looked in her early 60's.A LOT of good years left.

  • I turn 40 in late September, and plan to run my first 5K in October. I have been on the couch for the past 20 years, until six months ago. I haven't been this fit since I was 20. Looking forward to 40-something; it's the new 30-something, right?

I'm new to running, as well as dailymile, so I'm happy to have new running friends online.

  • Just over - 40 years young here last March. I started running in July last year, finished tearing my meniscus in November, surgery December and ran a half in May this year. I have done 1 training run of 15 miles now and I'm training for the Columbus full marathon in October. I have gone back to the proper training schedule rather than trying to bust out 15+ mile runs ;-)
I'm enjoying the improved fitness since I started running - my previous running was about 22 years prior to that when I hated it at school in PE.

  • Hi Renee (& others!)
41 year old here. Just started running at the beginning of the year and did my first 5K in July. I'm certainly not the quickest and I have had a couple of months where motivation has gone downhill but I have just re-joined a gym and am finding cross-training a big bonus!

When I turned 54 I ran my first marathon and have been doing one or two every year since the first one! Currently training for Marine Corps Marathon and would enjoy talking with others and hearing their trials, tribulations and successes!!!!

  • 46 years young. Started running a couple of years ago, had to stop for a while because of PF so I took up cycling as well. Back at the running now.
After getting up to over 300 lbs, I am now the healthiest I have been in 20 years (though still have a lot of weight to go).

Running bug bit hard and I ran a couple half marathons as well as the triathlons, and signed up for first full marathon in December...that still sounds weird to say that out loud!!

  • Yeap, just turned 40 last July. I have been running on and off short disstance for a while. But I am a beginner long distance runner. I started running long distance end of last year with a goal of running a marathon before my 40th birth day. I did a couple of 1/2 marathons last March and my 1st ever marthon, the NJ long branch marthon, on May 6, 2012. I am training for my second marthon in October, the Marine Corps Marathon in DC-VA area. Have fun with your run and stay injury free, lots of luck to you Renee.

  • Hi there, I'm 46 and am in my second week of running. I'm using an iPhone app running plan and find it very helpful. I've taken up running in the past but always suffered from shin splints, this time though I have altered my running style and now am a forefoot striker instead of a heel striker. There seems to be no pain so far so I have high hopes if I stick to this way of running and progress slowly I should be able to enter my first 5k race in late October.
I am also looking for friends on this site.
