I have having troubles with my left foot in my half marathon training

asked 4 months ago | Report

After about 3-4 miles sometimes, my left foot gives up as if it has no life. I realize this because I start landing flat footed on the track instead of heal first while me right leg always lands heel first. What could be the problem here? i always make it a point to re-hydrate during the run (every 15 minutes). Also, whenever this happens, I also get a slight cramp in my left leg's calf. I am afraid I might not be able to run the half marathon because of this. I have completed 3 weeks of training already.

  • Hard to say, but I can tell you landing heel first is generally considered to be not good - it is usually preferred to land mid-foot or forefoot.
Do you ever feel any numbness at all? I ask because maybe there is pinching of a nerve or blood vessel or something (really just shooting in the dark here) I'm also wondering what you mean by your foot giving up - like it's tired, or the muscles just refuse to cooperate?
If you haven't gone to a reputable running store to get fitted for proper shoes (if you over or under pronate), I'd suggest that first. After that, it might be worth making an appointment with a sports doctor - better to bag this half marathon and get things sorted out than to do real long term damage.
