Shoes don't matter. VFF, normal shoes - whatever works for you is all good.
With barely a month to double your distance, best I can suggest is to bump up each weekends long run by about 2km. Since time is no issue, if you have to take a walk break every couple km to conserve energy, so be it.
You might have to cut out one of the weekday runs, though, to provide for ample recovery time after the long runs.answered 4 months ago |Report

I agree with Ryan's advice about the run walk strategy.
In particular id suggest that you walk the steep uphill sections, and walk them from the begining of the race on.
Since your in VFF's id also suggest walking the steepest downhills too, unless your really practiced at descending and staying up on your forefoot, going fast downhill and staying of your heel is not easy.
