I am running barefoot on threadmill.

asked 4 months ago | Report

I am trying to run 2km in 10 min where I can able to run 1km in 5 min. Now I am feeling bit knee pain. Is that fine or Should I need to reduce my pace.

  • If you are indeed running barefoot then perhaps you should consider some cushioned shoes rather than reducing your pace. Barefoot can cause significant impact and could be dangerous on a moving treadmill so be careful!

  • With the exception of the sprinters- running is an endurance sport. Speed results in injuries. Most of your running, at least 80% if not 90% should be at an 'easy' pace. Build your base at an easy pace and only then should you be adding speed work. Trying to go out and run fast from the start is a quick ride to a running injury. As for mixing a little barefoot running in to your workouts- that's not a bad idea. I won't go into the barefoot thing here- but the treadmill is a good place to start barefoot, as 1. there aren't any rocks, and 2. you can run a small distance barefoot on the 'mill, and then put your running shoes on and do the rest. So- it's convenient.

  • Hi Siva, I have a bunch of barefoot running friends here at DM - feel free to take a look at my friend list and add some of them - you'll easily be able to spot them, most BF runners profile pics are of their feet :). They have a ton of experience and will have some good advice to offer.
