How tired should I be at the end of a run?

asked 4 months ago | Report

Hello! This seems like a silly question, I know, but I'm a total newbie doing a 10k training programme (similar to C25K), and started on Week 3, as wks 1&2 weren't taxing me at all (run for 30 secs, walk for 5mins). By the end of the hour doing ten sets of 1.30 run then 3.30 walk, I was tired, but not catastrophically so. Should I be pushing myself harder?

  • Nope, thats all good. You should never finish a run feeling totally spent. Stick with the plan and follow it... youll Improve rapidly... doing Too Much Too soon is more dangerous than not doing enough.

  • What Paul said. If you are pushing yourself so much that you are completely spent, you are pushing too hard. As a beginner, you are pushing yourself in ways you can't readily measure - so you may not 'feel' it.

How well do you sleep after one of these sessions? If you find yourself falling asleep more quickly than normal, sleeping more soundly than normal, sleeping longer than normal, etc - then you know that your body is being stressed, even if you don't feel it directly.
