Bike in the city, everywhere?

posted over 6 years ago | Report

Hi ! I'm new here :)

I was wondering if there were people who liked to use their bike not only to exercise but also as a mean of transportation (for ecological reasons)? Do you reckon it's doable to use only your bike in a city (for a student or young worker)? I'd love to hear some of your stories :)

I'm trying it out in Brussels for the month of august. If anyone wanna join, everywhere in the world, we could share our experience and see if we can manage! Let me know!

Cheers and have a great training!

  • Absolutely! I've been starting to only allow myself to get groceries if I bike to the market or grocery store...and if it weren't quite so far to work (about 20 miles each way...and it's hot and humid here) I'd ride there too!

  • The local bike shop owner, only drives a car twice a year, to go to bike events that are too far to bike to.

It can be done, it's a matter of wanting to try!

  • I commute when I get the chance, and yes, beside the obvious improvement to my health and fitness it is for money savings and ecological reasons. I intend to do as much as I can through August, so I am right there with you on the sharing of experiences.

For some more information on cycle commuting there are several good websites on the topic that I peruse:

    Bike commuting blog/'zine: (

Urban Velo covers urban cycling (talks about commuting sometimes): (

    Bike commuting humor: (

Good product reviews that apply to commuting (

And THE major source of bike commuting information (unfortunately now in archive-mode, as the website creators have moved on to different things): (

  • Hi
I believe its doable. I just started yesterday. My Friday routine made me do 45 km on the first day.Expecting each day to be with lots of experience. Nice to know that there are people with similar ideas in mind.

    Cheers happy ridding...!
