What do you wear in the rain?

asked 8 months ago | Report

Had my first ride in the rain today. I had heard I'd need fenders but didn't realize how much I'd need them - mud slick up to the top of my head!

So besides fenders, what do you wear to ride your bike in the rain? I'm not into the full biking gear "outfit" fancy looking stuff. I want comfort and as much dryness as I can get since I live in Washington and will no doubt be riding in the rain more times than not. I didn't realize my feet would be soaked so much either.

I'll be posting what do you wear in the COLD soon too - it gets pretty cold here in the winter time. Pretty sure I'll be in the market for a full face mask before too long. I'm warm-blooded and don't like the cold but don't want to give up riding my bike while waiting for June to roll around.

Thanks!!

Thanks Trey - so where would I look to buy winter "running" gear? I hadn't thought of the vest - good idea.

  • you mean that stuff that falls from the skies? We dont get that down here. lol Well you figured out the fender stuff so that's good. I wish i had a good answer for you as it hasn't rained here in a long time and I dont ride in the rain when it does. I did have a friend that I saw ride in the rain. He wore both the pants and a rain jacket with a hood.

Pretty much a useless post on my part. lol Check out nashbar.com and performancebikes.com for their rain gear selection.

  • "I'm not into the full biking gear "outfit" fancy looking stuff."...nice. One of the best things you can invest in is a vest. Keeping the wind off your core will keep you body very warm. As far as staying dry and not looking to cycling fancy, I'd suggest running gear. It won't be super tight, but will protect you from the elements. Keeping you feet warm may require some cycling only gear, a cycling shoe booty will keep the rain and wind off and some are insulated to keep you even more toasty. The booty will allow for you to still clip in.

Craft makes the best Washington appropriate cycling, running, skiing, etc. gear on the market, in my opinion.
