Interesting encounters while working out.

I've been thinking about the things I encounter while running that are kind of unusual or interesting and wondered what others have encountered. So, starting off two items:

First, I have this trail I run on on weekends that follows a converted railroad grade. The trail is pretty flat and safe from road traffic. Over the last few weekends I've been pushing my distance from 6K to working to get to 1/2 Marathon distance. While pushing the distance I've come to discover a number of beaver dams along the route. There's one where I can even see the beaver mound. So far no beaver sightings but I'm looking forward to seeing them as the weather improves.

Second, I started my nightly run one night and came face to face with a Police "Speed Sign" (one of those radar equipped devices that tells you how fast you're going, letting you know if you're going "too fast".) It was clocking me at 6 Miles an hour... I didn't know whether to be impressed or dismayed.

What about your encounters?

  • An interesting encounter one time on the ole Creeper Trail where I often run. It was in the fall of the year and I was run 5-miles out that day for a total of 10-miles. Eventually I passed all my hide spots, and (mother-nature) was calling. I had to go bad, but there was absolutely no place to go. Because I didn't see anyone I decided to get off the trail a little bit and let it all hange out. Skimpy bushes would leave me wide open for a great view, but no was around. Then at my surprise and older (Woman and Man) came around the corner walking. I was quiet as a mouse, and for some odd reason they never turned their heads from looking straight forward. Lucky me I guess, but when you've got to go you've simply got to go, lol. ( =

Another time I was racing a "half-marathon" sometime in February just outside of Knoxville, Tennessee. Sometime during the race I had to take a whiz. Coffee before the race and also colder weather does that to me sometimes. I glanced back to see someone in a baseball cap. I said to myself he won't care, and (He would do the same thing if he had to go really bad). So I pulled off to the side of the road with literally no place to hide got with it. Just before I got finished and my shorts straightened out a (Woman in a baseball cap passed me). I simply threw it in my shorts, and missed a pr by less than a minute that day. Embarrsed as can be, but it was probably something she hadn't seen before, (that is from someone else). Very funny story. But again when you've got to go you've simply got to go.
    God Bless...+

  • I've been tempted to do this on some of my longer runs... but, I've now got the porta-potty's all marked out so I can take a break in a less risky and more socially acceptable place.
