Tough Mudder

posted 10 months ago | Report

I am signing up for the tough mudder on October 20th in Maysville, KY! Is anyone else doing this or maybe you have done one? I would love to hear any advice on training or hear stories from the experience :)

  • hey Nikki. I did the south east/midlands in the uk. and it was great fun.

I would say that as long as you can run 8 miles comfortably you will be fine with that. The obstacles split up all the running and the motivation you get for all the over competitors is incredible, I could barely stop for a cup of water with out some one tapping me on the back or urging me on. so you hardly think about the 12 miles.

Some of the obstacles do require some exertion so I would suggest some circuit training to get all of your muscles used to working together.

But the really all you need to do is have fun. I don't think I stopped laughing the whole way round and was reluctant to cross the line at the end.

Best of luck Nikki i'm sure you will love it :)

  • I want to do it, but am gonna have to wait until they either come closer or I have the money for a long trip. I did the warrior dash (overrated) and am doing another short mud run that's at a ski area in september. good luck.

  • I did the one at Mount Snow, VT Last month. It was a great time and extremely challenging. Mount Snow is, well, a mountain so we did a lot of training on a small ski slope nearby. We would do several hills combined with trail running and mix in pushups and bear crawls. There was also a kids play ground near by and we trained on the wooden fence (balance beam) and the monkey bars. Both came in handy. I don't think I could ever train enough to run up mount snow so it was more like hiking up and running down. The obstacles are tough but were manageable with the help of teammates. If you are doing it solo, don't worry. Every participant is willing to help you out!
