What would you have done

posted 4 months ago | Report

While out running today at lunch I had a funeral procession pass me. Now I was on the opposite side of the road running against traffic. So I was actually going in the same direction of the funeral procession.

So I started to think should I have stopped and let them go by then continue or just keep running.

I kept running but when a vehicle that did pull over I ran on the passenger side and not the drivers side so I wouldn't interfere.

So what would have you done.

  • if it were my funeral i would want you to keep running and yell out "race you to the cemetary".

  • My suggestion: give the family respect and let them pass.

  • That was my thinking. But I made sure I did not interfere with them. If I would have had to cross the street I would have waited

  • Hmm I would keep running-who knows the guy or gal may have been a runner and would have appreciated it! you were respectful that's what counts

  • I'm sure the people in the funeral cars didn't even notice. They're grieving and thinking of other things. It's nice you were so considerate of what was going on, but I think it was OK to keep running.

  • I don't think there's a wrong answer here. It sounds like you were aware and respectful to the procession. You asked what would "I" do, I guess it would depend on how long is the procession? If it was something like 30-40 cars and would pass by quickly I'd wait and let them go. If it was hundreds of cars I'd probably keep running as you did.

  • I'd keep running and if I needed to cross I would. Most of the cars are in procession just to not get lost. I would wait for a chance that wouldn't cause them to lose car ahead of them and go for it. The close family and friends are in the first cars anyway.
But, I know not everyone will agree.

  • Run today. There will be plenty of time to worry about funerals later!

  • When my father died, we had to drive out into the country in order to reach the cemetery and every car pulled over to wait for us to pass by and every driver/passenger saluted or removed his cap. I will never forget it...the respect was humbling. So, that said, I think I would stop for a few minutes.
