What kind of blender do you use?

asked over 2 years ago | Report

I'm looking to buy a new blender because mine is making funny noises. I mainly just use it to make smoothies, and my husband makes protien shakes. What brand/model blender do you use, do you like it, and which ones would you recommend to avoid?

  • I have a small one that I use for smoothies/protein shakes. It's a Hamilton Beach and the cup comes off so you can take it with you. Very handy!

  • I have a Kitchen Aid now. I was going through blenders at the rate of 1 every 2 months until I got this one. It really goes after it!

  • If the majority of what you use it for is smoothies and shakes, then get a stick blender.

I have a stick blender that I love. It's the most powerful little thing, and it tucks away in my cabinet so easily.

I use the Cuisinart SmartStick blender. Bonus, it's only $28! ;)

  • I went big and got a Vita Mix last year with the promise to myself that if I spent the money, I had to use it for an entire year. Well it's a year later, and my husband and I drink green smoothies almost every day STILL! The one I got is a reconditioned 5200 from the Vita Mix website, and it's been well worth it in terms of the contribution it's made to our health. But it's still a big chunk of change and may not make sense for everyone.

  • Using the Bullet right now...... works pretty good to make the smoothies, and it's got the separate cups so we can make our own pretty easily.

  • I have been using the Osterizer "Silver Bee-hive" since college. It is the BEST. Plenty of power. Very SIMPLE.... Off-High-Low. I mean really, how often do you need to press the Frappe button.

Avoid anything with a plastic pitcher.

  • Cook's Illustrated "Highly Recommends" KitchenAid 5-Speed Blender, model # KSB560 ($149.99) and "Recommends" Kalorik BL Blender, Model 16909 ($49.99).

Consumer Reports lists Braun PowerMax MX2050 ($50) as a "Best Buy;" and Oster Counterforms BVLBO7-L ($80) or Oster Fusion BRLY07-Z ($80) as "Recommended."

Personally, I like blenders that have a metal base and a glass jar.

  • I agree with Leslie G. I just posted a question about blending with protein powder. My VitaMixer is 25 years old and I use it whenever possible. Never had a problem. Once it stopped working but I unplugged it, took the bottom off, fiddled with the wired connections and it's worked ever since.

  • "Vita-Mix"

I wanted one from the first day I saw it at the Fair. I didn't get one for over
20 years. Sigh... Much too long. But NOW we have one! We use it EVERYDAY!
It's so easy. Works so well. Easy to clean. And doesn't burn up... (my girlfriend
wouldn't spend the money to get one until she burnt up 3 weaker blenders, YES 3... :o)

    We make everything in it:
    Soup
    Green Smoothie
    Frozen Dessert
    Salad Dressing
Flush Drink (Dr. Schulze's drink recipe)
    Red Sauce
    Sesame Milk
    etc...
    ...EVERYTHING!

Now, we don't know what we would do without it. We are addicted to ours!
    Yummy, healthy addiction.

PS Tammy, have you gotten a blender yet?

  • I have a kitchen aid and a vitamix. Vitamix ROCKS for smoothies and protein shakes. My kitchenaid is 12 years old (wedding gift) and still works well. The vitamix is probably 5 years old and is also in great shape. I've also used the cuisinart stick style that is also very nice. All are well worth the investment!

  • Uh, will it blend?

    http://www.willitblend.com ... aka: BlendTec.

Not sure about smoothies, but it will blend a broom, an iPhone, a digital camera ...

My local coffee shop uses one and seems to be happy with it.
