What is your favorite running quote?

asked about 1 year ago | Report

I sometimes need a lot of inspiring to get moving, just wondering what your favorite running quote is ... Currently, mine is "it's very hard to understand in the beginning that the whole idea is not to beat the other runners. Eventually you learn that the competition is against the little voice inside you that wants to quit."

  • I, too, need a lot of motivation and mine comes from browsing Google images for phrases and the words RUN RUNNING RUNNER (advanced search)...I might even annoy my friends on FB with all of them but hey, gotta be your own biggest cheerleader, right? Don't quit. :) Cheers.

  • There's something about this one I like:

    "Every morning in Africa a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a lion wakes up and it knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter if you’re a lion or a gazelle, when the sun comes up, you better be running."

  • somewhere in the last few miles of a marathon, I remember the quote "you're body is stronger than you think it is". it helps. that one, along with the venerable "pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever"

  • There are so many good ones but I'm in the early stages of a Half Marathon training program and this one has kind of hit me this week;

  • More of a boxing quote but it makes me laugh everytime I think of it. 'I'm so fast that last night I turned off the light switch in my bedroom and was in bed before the room was dark.' - Muhammad Ali
