I do spin class 2x a week and run 2x a week. I am not a big time runner but working towards my first 1/2 marathon and for me, it has been good.

Stacy, I cross train with a spin bike that I own. I've never attended a class. I buy my own stuff (treadmill, spin bike, power blocks.) I bought my bike on amazon for less than $300. I run 3 times a week, spin and lift 2 times a week, yoga 1 day a week, and stretch everyday. I would recommend the Sunny Spin Bike on amazon. It's well reviewed and very sturdy. Check it out!

I do a spin class once a week. I find it helpful. It helps to build endurance and leg muscles. And it gives your running muscles a break. I also swim twice a week, and that is helping with endurance as well. And I run three times a week. This is the first season I am cross training like this and I find that I do not tire as easy and I feel like I could just keep going. I am training for a half marathon in May. I feel speedy for the first time in my life :) I say give it a shot. If you don't like it, you don't have to continue

I've been dealing with shin splints for the past several weeks. I don't do spin classes, but I've been riding a stationary bike at the gym to help me crosstrain and maintain fitness. I'm just easing back into running and think the bike has helped with maintaining endurance. I haven't had a set schedule with riding, but I have tried to go anywhere between 3-6 miles before weights, which I do 2 or 3 times per week.

I just enjoy a lot of different activities. I go to spinning classes once or twice a week. I'm sure that it helps, although I can't say how. I have to say that I enjoy the people that I meet.

Spin classes were great for my running when I last did them. They helped me lose some pounds and built my stamina quite a bit. When I went running after spinning for a few weeks, I found myself faster and not tiring out much despite the faster pace.

I teach Spinning twice a week. I love it as cross-training. I discovered indoor cycling classes because I gave myself shin-splints when I first started running and knew I couldn't afford to stop cardio until I was better.
If you focus on consistency and making whole pedal strokes (pushing in the front and pulling up in the back), then it really does help. It definitely helps build quads and glutes if you're pushing heavier resistance. It's like doing leg presses. If you're taking a class, the music and instructor usually help motivate you to stick with it for the 45 minutes or so.
I would also really focus on stretching as the one drawback to Spinning is that it shortens the movement of certain muscle groups. So, while it's making you stronger, your stride may shorten. However, solid stretching right AFTER a Spin class negates this and can even help open your stride a bit.
