Good luck to all this Saturday. This race was so much fun last year, too bad the race filled up before I could sign up for 2010.
I hope you guys ran on plenty of hills before hand.
The looping course makes it a great race for spectators and friends.... So bring some friends and family. A group of friend came come to cheer me on, and I saw them at many points in the race.

almost 2 years agoHey Jeanne,
Steve is right. You basically train for a marathon. The only difference is training on trails. Not as much speed work. Hill work instead. Make the long run longer. Think time on your feet.
Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Here's a link to the video if you have trouble finding it (I did!):

Looks like the site is back up (it occasionally goes down). I expect to see your name in the entry list the next time they update the site!...
Woo hoo!
P.S. If you haven't watched the video there, do it. It's great!
over 2 years agoOK guys. The website is down at the moment, but as soon as it is back up, I am in!

Jeanne -- I've taken part in a couple of 50k's in the past. To be honest, my training was basically the same as marathon training. I may have stretched out my Sunday long run, but really, everything else was the same.
I'm no expert, and experienced "Ultra Runners" may chime in with more relevant advice, but I'm with Andy -- it's *only* 8k further than a marathon. Just make sure you train on similar terrain and in similar conditions (not easy for me in Virginia Beach) and you should be fine.
C'mon, take the plunge :)
over 2 years agoC'mon Jeanne. It's 50k, not 50 mile. It's only 8k further than a marathon. The course/conditions will be tougher too, but you'll manage.
over 2 years agoTempted, but scared...Can someone share training for an event this long?
over 2 years agoTempting, very tempting...
