Richmond, VA – The 7th Annual American Family Fitness 5K/10K Walk/Run to benefit Children’s Hospital Foundation is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2009. Starting and finishing at Children’s Hospital’s main location at 2924 Brook Rd. in Richmond, the courses wind through sc...enic and historic neighborhoods in Richmond’s northside. For children ages 5-10, the event will also feature the Kids Mascot Mile, which takes place on and around hospital grounds. Other race day activities include a health fair, children’s festival, stroller decorating contest and post race breakfast. Start times will be 8:30 a.m. for the Mascot Mile, 9:00 a.m. for the 10k, and 9:15 a.m. for the 5k.
Registration is available online at www.amfamrace.com or at any of the six area American Family Fitness locations. The entry fee is $25 before October 1, increasing to $35 after that date. Children’s Hospital Foundation raises funds for Children’s Hospital of Richmond, a resource and provider of specialized medical and therapeutic services customized to meet the specific needs of children and their families. The hospital began as a small clinic in 1917 and now serves more than 7,000 children each year, providing inpatient, day patient and outpatient services for a wide variety of medical conditions. As a result, the hospital relies on support from the community to continue its mission. Since 1997, American Family Fitness, Richmond’s largest privately held fitness centers, has raised over $265,000 for Children’s Hospital, and this fall’s race is expected to continue that commitment to children’s health. read more
