Monument Ave 10k!!!
AWESOME RACE!!! first time I've done the 10k without walking a step, and I ran a serious negative split -- first 5k in 35:42, then the second 5k in my fastest time ever, 32:40!! ran almost the whole race with Sara G. -- we kept a really good pace together, and her iPhone app kept us aware of what that pace was =). sped up for the last mile, and then really gave it everything I had for the last 0.2. I could have done this whole race faster, though -- I was breathing easy until the last 0.2, and my legs weren't worn out at any point. excellent =)
it was COLD as dickens at the beginning (30ish), hence the slow start -- my legs took a mile or so to warm up. left ankle bugged some throughout; right knee was stiff for a bit but I did a better job of changing up my pace, and that helped loosen it up. it IS stiff and achy tonight. icing when I think of it ...

Best pace ever - perfect weather!
I had a goal of 60 min! Made it in 58:49! Weather plays a big part in how well I run and for me it was ideal! Chilly and the sunshine made it just beautiful! Plenty of port-a-potties and the starting corrals are smaller than a few years back and I like it. To know you are running with 30,000+ is amazing! SportsBackers and Ukrop's - EXCELLENT job! Great post race food (even without a choice of flavored bagel) - I enjoyed the Powerade, bananas, bagel, yogurt, water...grabbed some other free snacks for the road - crackers, 100 Calorie packs of Nabisco cookies...everything flowed nicely. We've parked in the same block of Richmond - only about 1 block from finish line for several years - arriving about an hour early to the race. Congrats to all finishers!

Race Report
AMAZING!!!!! First race since breaking my foot in October had me nervous as hell beforehand. Fortunately, getting to the site and seeing all the people and costumes put me at ease. As I entered my wave and prepared for the start my adrenaline level shot up and I was ready to run. Got out there very cognizant of my foot, trying to pay close attention to it. After one mile I was feeling so good and enjoying the bands and race fans along the side of the road so much that i didnt give my foot another thought. I went in praying I would be faster than last year. I crossed the finish line not caring what the official time was. Incredibly, I came in at 45:28, a full 4 minutes faster than last year. I was so happy I choked up. Thank you to all my family, friends, DMers and tweeps who kept encouraging, inspiring and motivating me. Couldn't have done it without you!
