Together for Derek.org is a non-profit organization created to raise awareness and funds to support cancer research. In April of 2006, Nazareth Area High School graduate and basketball player Derek Kehoe was diagnosed with LMS. He lost his battle in late October at the yo...ung age of 19. Leiomyosarcoma is a rare form of cancer, which affects about four people in every million. It spreads through the blood stream and can affect the lungs, liver, blood vessels, or any other soft tissue in the body. Presently there is no cure, only remission if it can be attained, and this rare cancer can reappear anywhere at any time. Because of its rarity, few doctors know how to treat it and it attracts very little research. To raise money for Leiomyosarcoma awareness and research, a 5K Run/Walk will take place on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Northampton Community College. Please plan to join us!!! read more
