2009 Cool Mountain Bike Race
This race is in it's 17th year, and the organizers put on a great event. This year the weather was a bit iffy, chilly and the course was just muddy enough for a proper race. I wasn't familiar with the course at all, but my understanding is that the race officials made some last minute changes to the course, a change that really didn't bother me too much but some of the riders could be heard grumbling about it. The course this year was about 10.5 miles with about 1700ft of climbing. There were enough features to satisfy most normal people, steep lung searing hills to steep rocky descents, a few water crossings and even a mud bog to finish the race and satisfy the spectators. (The mud bog is a crowd favorite as they get to watch racers brave the deep puddle and either get trapped in the bogg or go head over heels with a face plant straight into the water!)
Afterwards, the organizers conduct what I think is one of the largest raffles I have seen with over $15k worth of schwag being given away at this year's event. If you are thinking about checking out a race, definitely consider this one. I'll be back next year!
