    Rocky Raccoon 2009 50-mile

    This was my first ultra and my first trail run of any length. The event seemed very well organized. the aid stations were stocked with more types of food and drinks than I would ever have thought of. The volunteers were numerous and extremely helpful and friendly. Aid stations averaged 3 miles apart on the loops, which was challenging, but not dangerous.

    I only did the 50 mile course, so I can't speak for what things were like after the sun went down, but when I finished after 11 hours, there were still plenty of supplies and lots of people manning the aid stations. The course seemed clearly marked as well with lots of glo-sticks hanging on branches to mark the trail through the night.

    I don't know if I will ever do a 50 again, but if I do, it may well be this one. I'm very impressed.
