Another top-notch Endorfun event
My primary reason for signing up for this event was the fact that it was put on by Endorfun and I was blown away by the way they did Longhorn 70.3 last October. They did not disappoint with Lone Star.
Saturday was the Sprint and Sunday was the 1/4 and 1/2 Iron distances. I signed up for the 1/4. 1/4 Iron is an unusual distance, being similar to Olympic, but not quite. .6 mile swim, 28 mile ride, 6.5 mile run.
I worked the Sprint on Saturday and that was my first time volunteering an event. I had a good time doing that and supporting Gordon, who was doing his first tri. What a great place to do one's first triathlon!
The pasta diner Saturday night was expensive as they always are, but the company was good and the food was good too. I guess it just comes with the territory.
Water was 65 degrees on Saturday and 67 on Sunday. That felt cold for about 30 seconds, and then it was quite refreshing.
As I expected, the swim was my worst event since I only recently got back into the pool. The course was well-marked and well-manned and always felt safe. groups were smallish and spread out enough that swimmers were not climbing over each other on the course.
The bike route was flat and nice enough, although not all that scenic. Intersections were well-policed and aid stations were frequent enough. Ride out was into the wind, so my ride in was actually faster. A pleasant surprise.
The run was a winding 6.5 mile course through Moody Gardens and this one was pretty scenic. Supporters were everywhere cheering and ringing cowbells. There were a number of live bands, which is always a nice distraction. Aid stations were well-spaced and well-stocked.
Over all, the giveaways were great and the whole thing was top notch.
I even beat my goal and came in under three hours!

My First Tri Ever :D
This was my first Tri ever so I can't compare it to anything, but compared to the 5K and 10K I have run it was head and shoulders above the rest. What a great event. The support people were all really nice and enthusiastic. They have live bands on the run course and after the event, great food, and a great group of participants.
Devin did a great job in describing the event and the course so I will second all that he said. Once again, it was an awesome event and very well put together. Also, the weather was great too. Not too hot or too cold. I can't wait till next year. W00T!!!

Checking weather...

Donna, I went all Internet Detective and looked you up in the results. You put in a very respectable time. It was my first tri of the season as well.
You raced on Saturday. I was working that day in the transition area and probably saw you as you left T2 for the run, even though I didn't recognize you. I was there to support Gordon T, who rocked the "1st timers" division with a top-quarter finish.
Good job to everyone who participated!
about 3 years agoGood Luck!
about 3 years agoThis is my second full tri... did Tri America last year. Did the bike leg of a relay team in the 2003 Danskin. I'm looking forward to this -- It's supposed to be a great run event!
about 3 years agoThis will be my first Triathlon ever. I am signed up for the "First Timers" division. :D
