Inaugural SJR Seattle Half Marathon
If this race were any larger, it wouldn't have worked for this course at all! There were a couple of out and backs that were pretty narrow (maybe 5 feet?) so it was a tight squeeze. Also, going over a bridge, it was literally 2 feet wide and you could hardly get two people abreast. The bathroom situation was also terrible - 3 bathrooms at the park facilities were disgusting and only 7 (?) port-a-potties for 2500+ people, most women? Um, yeah. Not enough. I would have liked to have seen a couple more water stations but with the route, it would have been challenging. I appreciated that the course was mostly flat and that this was a smaller Seattle Half but lordy, I don't know if I would do it again. I think they need to rethink the route and starting point. Gasworks is a fun park but the limited parking was an issue and it isn't centrally located. A shuttle from the host hotel would have been nice as well.
The staff was great and ending the race with champagne was fun. SJR was very engaged with runners leading up to the event via Facebook and Twitter which I appreciated. Answers to questions were given in a timely manner.
There wasn't a ton of spactators, probably due to gray drizzly weather, and the ones that were there, weren't very vocal until the finish line. The volunteers throughout the route were very encouraging and helpful and I appreciated them very much.
