Windy weather, lovely race
As always the Marathon Sports CityRun managed to impress me even though it's by far the smallest race I run in the Boston area. This year they started using chips for the first time, which were included on the bib. In years past volunteers would collect the bottom portion of the bib and somehow, miraculously, determine our time from that.
The weather was very windy, and a bit cold to start but I was amazed at how quickly I warmed up. Less than a mile in and I was pulling off my windbreaker, gloves and ear band.
Well-timed aid stations at about mile 2 and 4 provided water. (It's actually the same station that you pass twice.) I usually don't drink water on such a short run but decided I should take a few sips at mile 4. Bananas at the end were the perfect end to my race!
Race recap in a nutshell. Mile 1: warm-up. Mile 2: Watching my footing on the terrible pavement and shoddy sidewalks before getting to the Fresh Pond trail. Mile 3: Enjoying the beautiful views of Fresh Pond and trying not to let the wind blow me into the woods. Mile 4: Passing all of the walkers attending the 3 mile walk portion of the event. Mile 5: Running uphill and in headwinds to a quick finish.
