ING Running 20 12.11.2010
As my first 10k race, I was very excited to see what would be my performance during the race especially, this will be a real test of stamina, endurance and mental toughness. I don't expect any major breakthrough because I didn't have time to train myself before the week. The only effort I did is to view youtube videos displaying information about running a 10-kilometer race. The only thing that stuck in my mind is how to properly do a jog by mentally and physically relaxing your upper body and putting your reserved energies and strengh in your lower body in finishing the race.
I arrived early and do some warm-up walk-jog aroud the assembly area. There were many foreigners participating since this event is conducted globally like in New York. Surprisingly, I saw again those Kenyans (from Africa) also joining the race as well. I noticed that they keep on participating in different runs and most of the time they always won. Africans are really fast even if they're as thin as average Filipinos or Asians.
I started and finished the race in a jogging pace. I am so thankful that I didn't stopped for a walk. I really endured and showed my toughness throughout the race. I'm so proud at myself. This race is dedicated for the funding of a 20+ plus house-building project of ING Bank in the Philippines in partnership with Habitat for Humanity (think of Gawad Kalinga).
Well there are a lot of things that happened very bad: (1) confusing tracks and loops, (2) mismanagement of traffic, (3) misinformation of marshals (not knowing what they're doing), (4) taking advantage of people tired by selling of a sponsoring sports drink, and (5) less emphasis and importance placed on other race category runners such as those 10k, 5k and 3k. Well, it's just my observation but it seems every runner who participated on this race feels the same way. There are so many thing needs to be improved.
