ET 10K run
The ET 10K run in Rachel, NV, (Area 51/Extraterrestrial Highway), was a nice run.
The course, for the 10K at least, was very simple and would have been boring had it not been at night, on the Extraterrestrial Highway, and surrounded by runners in such diverse attire as a cow hat and grass skirt (older gentleman), tutus, glow sticks, blinking LEDs, capes and more.
The event organizer said that the water stations would be "fill stations only" and unmanned. The water station, for the 10k at least, was manned by volunteers from the Las Vegas Triathlon Club.
The weather was perfect, clear skies with a temp of 63.1 degrees and a Gamma radiation level of 13.6 according to the Community Environmental Monitoring Program (CEMP) station in from of the Little A'Le'Inn.
The race shirts and finisher metals were awesome.
There were few spectators other than family and finished runners.
There were a few problems: Several of the charted buses went the wrong way and delayed the race. 10K runners who were unable to pick up their chip, race bib and swag in Las Vegas were to pick it up in front of the Little A'Le'Inn between 0015 and 0045 hours. The race coordinator, due to the late buses did not show up until after 0100 hours and they were starting the race late at 0110 hours. We had to rush to get our race bibs and chips and got the swag after the run (I did not get the right size t-shirt due to this). I do not blame the race coordinator for this as the error was on the charter bus company.
I did not ride the bus in but had instead been waiting at Rachel, NV, for the buses to get there so I could get my race stuff.
The meal after the race was horrible, cold greasy sausage, stale rolls with gravy and half-dollar sized pancakes. I ended up tossing mine in the trash.
The food and mix up aside, I did enjoy myself and would do the race again, this time moving up to the 1/2 marathon.

10 months ago@pinkkitten I haven't yet but I am going to do either the half for a training run or the 10k.
10 months agoI registered for the 51K but the winter training didn't go as planned so I emailed the RD and now I'm doing the half marathon so I can run with DH. Good luck!
about 1 year agoHave any of you actually registered yet and if so what distance are you running?
