VCM
The VCM weekend is always flawlessly organized. The YAM Scram for kids, the expo, relays, marathon - no problems.
The weather was an adventure. Rain and wind, followed by humidity, followed by sun and genuine heat. Aid stations were well-stocked and I didn't have any issues. Lots of water on the course, but that was not really much of an issue.
Spectators were great as usual, but perhaps slightly fewer in number than in the past - that is certainly true in the neighborhoods, but Burlington was packed.
To hit all of the star categories...
AId stations - frequent, well-staffed and well-stocked. Plenty of water and Gatorade. GU, pretzels, bagels, oranges and even candy are available on the course. Spectators in the neighborhoods add watermelon, water and oranges as well.
Spectators - plentiful and enthusiastic.
Traffic - Cars or people? There are no cars, but you are certainly never even close to alone on the course.
Race tees - A quality tech-tee.
Rest rooms - Honestly, no running race can possibly have enough restrooms. VCM does as well as anyone on that count.
Green - I have no idea how to judge that.
Course - Interesting enough. Like that it loops through town several times. The early out and back is usually a mite dull, but that is out of the way by mile nine.
Awards - I failed to win the marathon due to the hundreds of people who finished ahead of me, so I cannot speak to the awards there. But the finisher's medal is quite heavy and quite nice.
Extra credit - Burlington is a great place to hold a marathon. Makes for a very enjoyable weekend away.
