    Lovely experience!

This was such a great event! Flat and fast with a wonderful tour of a sweet town that truly came out and showed us great support. My only downer was actually 2 things: the rather lame shirts--not horrible, but not SPLASHY fabulous. ;-) and the lack of true RECOVERY beverages at the finish. Gatorade Recovery or Chocolate Milk would've been wonderful. Oodles of water and great food, though, AND they had on-site medal engraving which was super nice! I never had of my other medals engraved before-it only took 30 min.! Overall, a pretty fab event and I think it just may become my annual spring mary!!! xo

    Illinois Marathon

Felt amazing to cross the finish line. It's surreal to think I've been training for this race for 7 months, and after 4 hours I completed my first marathon. I felt strong the first 13 miles and started to get a little fatigued between 13-18. I never hit "the wall" during training, but it came at mile 23 during the race. It was like no pain I've ever experienced, but seeing my friend Elliot as I turned a corner after 24 gave me a boost. He ran up a hill with me where my girlfriend Lindsay and her dad were, cheering me on for the last 1.5 miles. I pushed myself after 25, and right as I was turning to enter Memorial Stadium, Lindsay was there again, at mile 26, cheering, and my parents were in the stadium right at the finish. It was such a memorable experience, and I'm really glad I was able to complete my first marathon in a very respectable time. It's such a feeling of accomplishment being able to tell people I'm a marathon runner.
