In 2009, the high successful Gail Parkins Memorial Ovarian Awarenes Walk added a 5K run. Over 300 runners completed the 5K led by Joe Ballou’s 18:45 clocking. Jennifer Hannen won the women’s competition in 20:28. Since this was the first year that course was used, both times a...re the course records. The run will begin at 8:30 am and the 2-mile walk will follow at 10:30 am. Both events start and finish at Sanderson High School locates at 5500 Dixon Drive in Raleigh. However, most of the course is on the greenway at Shelley Lake. The entry fee is $30 - $35 on race day. Gift certificates from Raleigh Running Outfitters will be given to the first three males overall, to the first three females overall, and to the first three finishers in each of the following age groups: 12-under.13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60-over. Proceeds from race wll go to the Duke Cancer Center to fund research to find a cure for ovarian cancer. read more
