The Big D Texas Marathon
This was a tough one for me! I PR'd but it really should not have been about that because the wind and sun were NO joke! I have some pics and will write a little more about my race experience later today. Happy Monday Everyone!

Good Experience
I did the half marathon - overall it was a good experience. Below are my ratings explanations:
by Mark O.
There seemed to be plenty of aid stations with plenty of enthusiastic people manning them (my thanks to the volunteers).
Crowds were good, I seem to remember people throughout the course offering words of encouragement - my favorite was the lady holding the sign that said "Run, Complete Stranger, Run".
Traffic control was excellent and friendly.
I did the Half and the shirt says "Dallas Marathon", so I'll never wear it. And in big races like this, I think they can afford technical shirts (the Pittsburgh Half and Marathon gives technical shirts, shouldn't that make people from Dallas mad?).
There are never enough rest rooms at a race :), my girl friend was still standing in the restroom line when the race started.
Green? I'm not sure what we are supposed to rate in this category. I threw my water bottle in a recycling garbage can - is that green?
I liked the course. It had couple little hills in it to keep it interesting. I liked going out to the lake and running on those paths.I was hoping the race would actually finish inside the Cotton Bowl on the 50 yard line - that would have been cool. It was much windier than I expected, is it always like that in this area?
Awards sucked - I was fortunate enough to place in my age group - I thought since this was the Big D race in Dallas that it might be a nice award, one worth keeping, it was a picture frame type glass award that simply said, "Age Group Winner" on it - not impressed.
Like my title says, overall, it was a good experience. I really have no complaints and it was rather enjouyable. I would do it again if I'm in the area.
A word of advice, don't go to Six Flags after the race and ride The Titan until you've had a chance to get your blood sugar back up - you may nearly pass out when it goes into its corkscrew turns.
