A great little race!
What's not to like about this race? Here are the "pros":
Super-friendly volunteers
Well-marked course (critical for trails!)
REAL bathrooms at the start and finish!
A prayer before the starting gun went off. (Race is put on by Christian Team Ministries. Maybe not everyone would like this, but I loved it!)
A chance to run part of the Western States trail! The race starts and ends at Sizzler Restaurant in Auburn. The first 2 miles are on pavement with gently rolling hills. The next 4 miles take you down into the American River Canyon on lots of single-track trails (Western States) with lots of rocks and roots. Because I'm cautious, this part was some slow going, but more adventurous types would love it. Then you hit the Foresthill Bridge, and start climbing. I'm told you go up 1000 feet over the next 4 miles. Many people walked or walk/ran this part.
There was a nice band at the finish line and lots of water, fresh fruit, and cookies (my favorite!).
