    Mercedes Marathon

Not at all what I'd planned and trained for, but sometimes you're the bug. HATE the two loop course. Second loop takes an eternity. But otherwise the race is fantastic, more aid stations than you can count, tons of volunteers, and the ever-popular hood ornament finisher's medal :-) This was #10 for me, so I also got an award with another hood ornament and a personalized engraved plaque, a nice touch, although I really don't need anything else sitting around collecting dust.

    Mike's Mercedes Review

Love the double loop course. Legs didnt like the tough stretch of uphill the second time around though. Thankfully, the weather was ideal but I still ended up losing my shirt the last 7 miles. This was my second marathon and I finished sub-4 and pr'd by over an hour. Spectator support was fantastic and the aid stations were plentiful. A must do of a race if your looking for a hometown feel and all the beer you can drink afterwards. I wish I would have known about the 5k the day before the marathon. With that kind of set up, it is perfect for a weekend family running trip. PS- I ran in my new kinvaras and absulety loved them.....no below the knee issues at all(just hamstrings)

    My first full marathon...

I had a great time and I plan to come back again next year. Traffic exiting I20 downtown was the only real problem. Traffic cops during peak hours would've improved the flow of traffic greatly. Aid stations were plentiful and it was nice having GU available too. The course is fast and I didn't mind the double loop. The volunteers were awesome! The weather was perfect. Thank you Mercedes and city of Birmingham, AL.
