Half the race, All the fun!

This was my second half of the year building up to the Chicago Marathon and I can say I will DEFINATELY run this half again! The mood was up and excited and I loved the route! Running over the Mississippi on an Interstate bridge is a heck of an experience and there was just enough of a roll to the route (i.e. couple of little climbs) to keep me interested. I was disappointed that the first Gu station had run out by the time I got there, but I loved the way it wound its way through the Quad Cities. A big downer was the Arsenal Bridge--the floor of this bridge is a metal grid (quite slick) and while there was runner carpets laid out, it was an invitation for tripping. In fact, the jaunt starting with the Arsenal Bridge and ending on the bike path near the civic center was kinda dead, the scenery was more industrial and you couldn't see the river for the trees and scrub brush. But overall, it was a sweet race. I will definately NOT be running the full QC Marathon because of the lack of imagination involved with the out-and-back leg at the end of the course. What torture to spot the finish line only to have to turn in the opposite direction?! But for a half, awesome! And they totally get a Green thumbs up for using recycled chip timing!!!
