PF Chang's Rock n' Roll Arizona Half Marathon
Holy huge crowds Batman! Showed up at the start around 7am and enjoyed the Brook's VIP porta potty zone. Highly recommend this to others! No lines, potties that have lights and are not freezing cold, and running water. Anyway, watched the marathoners get under way and then did my gear drop and headed for the half-marathon start line. I was in corral 13, about half way back, so once the race began I still had a 30 minute wait before my group hit the start line. Took it out slow at around a 10 minute mile until the chill was out of my muscles and then picked it up to about a 9:30. Made a quick potty stop at a park at mile 4 (it had been a long time since my morning stop) and saw a bunch of people cheat and cut across the park (probably a quarter mile cut). Sigh. Felt good until around mile 7.5 and hit my usual wall, but couldn't shake it until after mile 10. Did my best on the last 5k, but still came in 3 minutes slower than the Tucson half. To my credit, I did have to weave around people to get through the massive crowd throughout the whole race and actually ran 13.25 miles. Things that were interesting and amusing: a woman who wore her bathrobe to the start line (we all feel that way!), 2 men running the race dressed as bumblebees, a man running barefoot (not VFF - full on bare!), a woman running the marathon with one leg and one lung (cancer survivor - talk about courage!!). Overall, I'm glad I did it, but I don't think I need to do another one :)

Great 1st Race!
This was my first Rock and Roll and I have to say that it was everything that I was led to believe. I didn't get the VIP porta potties like another reviewer, but there were tons available and the lines were not bad at all. I started out in corral 14 since I've never done a race before. (I acually finished at 2:14, so I'll move up next time)

There were a lot of walkers almost right away, but the roads were wide, flat and fairly free from major cracks or tripping obstacles, so it wasn't too hard to manuver. There were several great bands and pep squads out although I expected more.
The R&R series is very accommodating to those with special needs. There were blind runners and others with other issues that were able to participate, so if you are looking for a race, this is a good option.
The tech shirts are sized fairly large, but are well made. I didn't feel like the money spent on this race was wasted. It was a great race! -

Checking weather...

Just ran the Country Music 1/2 Marathon as my first - really excited about this one coming up in January! Hopefully there will be no tornadoes, thunder or lighting at this one :p
