    Virginia 10 Miler review

This is a fantastic race! The event is very well organized, from packet pickup and pre-race activities like guest speakers (last year they had Dick Beardsley) through the actual race.

The course has a downhill start and is challenging throughout, most noteably it's tough finish on "Farm Basket hill" that starts at Mile 8.5 and goes almost all the way to the finish. While this might not be an easy course to set a PR, it's certainly one of my favorites!

There has been increasing numbers of particpants in recent years, along with more elite runners competing.

There is some interesting race history as well - in 1975, the second running featured a bit of controversy as two of America’s best, Frank Shorter(1972 Marathon gold medal winner at the Munich Olympics) and Bill Rodgers, went toe to toe for much of the race. Shorter and Rodgers chose to hold hands crossing the finish line. As required by AAU rules at the time, the race judges awarded the win to Rodgers who crossed the finish line just ahead of Shorter.

    Race Report

VA 10 miler was a great race, at least 5 live bands along the course and lots of fun. Thousands of people. I ran steady 10.00 pace the whole way. That was my goal and I thought if I finished it at that pace I would be happy. I learned a lot in that race and think I can do much better next time.
