A fun but not very competitive race

Wharf-to-Wharf is a really beautiful course along the ocean. It's a pretty fast course, although there are a couple of hills. The last quarter-mile is downhill, which is nice.

Weather in Santa Cruz is generally cool and foggy, so it's perfect for running. The spectators are very enthusiastic--there are local bands all along the route and some folks turn their hoses on sweaty runners! I found the atmosphere very inspiring.

The downside is that it's incredibly crowded. The first mile or so, you'll be lucky to jog, and throughout the course you'll have to do a lot of dodging and weaving to avoid walkers, runners who suddenly decide to stop running, and joggers.

    Wharf to Wharf Race

My first race...ever! It went really well for me. The first two miles were terrible w/ the crowds, but after they thinned out I felt great. Even felt good enough to run from the bus to my hotel after.
