Race Reports

  • Good Race, Could Be Better

This was a really fun race with a good crowd and enthusiastic participants. But with a few changes for next year, this could be an even better race.

Aid: There were water coolers in the transition area, but I did not see any water down by the beach where some women had to wait for their wave to start for almost 90 minutes.

Race Tees: I got to try on my T at the expo, and realized I needed the next size up which fit great. They let me choose a different size. Nice to have a woman's cut shirt.

Restrooms: One of the porta-potties I used had no TP and there was poop all over the seat.

Green: I got several advertisements in my plastic bag at the expo. Didn't need either. Would have preferred just my envelope with race #s and chip. I wish there was a race day packet pickup so I didn't have to drive to Webster twice. Waste of gas.

Course: There was a lot of yelling at swim start in the beginning telling people where not to stand. A little more instructions in the guide as to where to line up would have helped. Maps for the run and swim never were on the site. And I never saw a transition are map. Bike course was great and clear. But there was a lot of confusion as to which side to run on for the out-and-back.

Other: It was mentioned at the pre-race mtg that no balloons were allowed in transition, but this info was not in the guide. Better instruction (in the guide and onsite) as to where and how to rack your bike in transition would be good. People where getting conflicting info how to rack at the site. Most annoying is that woman who came very late were cramming their bikes on front racks where there wasn't space and piling gear on top of other's transition items. At the end before you were allowed to take your bikes out of transition, there were many women unracking their bikes and trying to get out. Plus I saw several children in the transition area.
