Terrible Experience!
The only reason I'm not giving one star is because I like the route of the race and I liked my medal. I would love my shirt if it fit me.
by Meg G.
The bigger problem had to do specifically with the race itself. Like other runners have said, it was unclear which race (5k,10, or half) was starting when. I saw speakers but couldn't hear the announcers. And the signage was very poor. Many of the 10k runners ran way past the turnaround not realizing it was for us (and apparently the 5k runners didn't even have a sign and didn't turn around until the 10k turnaround). At that point, I gave up on a PR or even trying to place in my age group (many people behind me turned around earlier as runners passed by and let them know the problem). I understand mistakes happen and even the volunteers with the best intentions unintentionally might negatively impact a race or its route. My larger frustration was the reaction by the race organizers. I went up to tell one of the organizers what had happened, I didn't really expect any immediate answers or solutions, but I wanted them to know about it. When I got there other people were also explaining their frustration. The organizer seemed angry with us and instead of acknowledging that something obviously went wrong, she told us there was nothing they could do. Having worked in customer service, the appropriate response would be to acknowledge what happened and let us know that they will try to find a way to make it right (maybe a discount on a future race, I don't know). They didn't need to tell us how they planned to help us, we only wanted to voice our frustrations.
