Boston Run to Remember 5 Miler

Yesterday I ran the Boston Run to Remember. I ran the 5 mile race. It was a lot of fun. Thankfully there were hundreds of other people running the 5 mile too. More people ran the half marathon than the 5 mile but it was still fun. It was super hot outside. I hadn't run 5 miles at the same time in a really long time. Throughout the race I kept telling myself to slow down. I usually run fast at the beginning and then lose the energy in the last mile. This time, I really tried to keep a steady pace and I think I was fairly successful. Thats my new running goal: control my pace. I know that I can run a 9:45min mile in a 5k so I tried to slow down a bit so I would have enough energy for the extra 2 miles. I ran a 53:54min 5 mile race which is a little over a 10min mile. I'm satisfied with that. I know I'm not fast but I finished strong--actually, I sprinted the last 100 yards (ish) through the finish. It was cool because the guy was announcing our names as we finished and he actually said my name right! I was pretty stoked.

I felt like I accomplished my goals in the race. I felt like a real champ afterwards. It makes me believe that longer runs are actually possible!
