    2010 Peachtree Road Race

Another 4th of July, another Peachtree Road Race in the books. I'm a little disappointed that I didn't run faster but even starting so close to the front, there are still SO many people on the course that it makes it hard to "race" this event. Did get to see many of my running buddies at the evnet which always makes it that much more enjoyable. Don't know my splits as I actually ran this "naked" without my Garmin or a watch! I did make the top 1000 and will get the coveted coffee mug once again !!

    Peachtree Road Race

My first Peachtree 10K. Amazed at the size and scope of the event. So impressed by the organization that made it possible for ~ 55K people to race together. Ran the race with my friend Suzanne in her first 10K. Great time! They say Peachtree is not a race to have a P.R. because of the crowds, heat, humidity, and the course is difficult with a hilly final 3 miles (mostly uphill). The weather turned out to be a beautiful 70 degrees and not too humid. The course is tough but I was able to shave about 3 minutes off of my 10K time from April and I didn't injure my right ankle! GRATEFUL :) Thanks again to all my dailymile friends who gave me support. Maybe we can get together at a race in the future. CHEERS!

    2010 Peachtree Road Race

So my first time running the famous Peachtree Road Race. I'll admit that I was nervous being that my running and diet as of late have been... ahem... rather diminished. Also, I had only run one 10k previously and it was on a trail so I didn't know quite what to expect.

The race began up in Buckhead and I felt lucky to be in the A time wave, because it meant starting at the same time as the Elites, Seeds, Sub-Seeds ie early (7:30)-- I feel bad for the Z-wave starting in the nasty heat. Anyway, after a rousing fly-over by a C-130 and the National Anthem, the race count was done, and we were off!

The first mile was a bit slow moving as me and thousands (literally) of people vied for position. I decided, as opposed to some previous races, to just go with it the first mile and not try and weave and dodge too much-- I figure the weaving and dodging probably burns up more energy than time it saves. So after a 7:03 first mile, the pack thinned and I was able to clock a 6:38 and 6:32 2nd and 3rd mile -- damn fast!

Next came cardiac hill aka just when it flattens out and you think it's over it suddenly gets worse. Funny: I've run this hill many times, and I never thought it was really all that bad.... Sh*t I was wrong. Then again, I had never really RUN cardiac hill.

After that I went pretty much into coasting/don't vomit mode with splits in the mid- to upper-7's.

Anyway, I am super-pumped for my 45:01 official time! Maybe next year I won't go on a bender 2 nights before!
