The North Face Endurance Challenge 5K
My goal was to run the full race, and I did just that! It was a perfect day for a run - the temperature was ideal and the sun was shining. We arrived at Ottawa Lake about 45 minutes ahead of time. I took some time to do my usual dynamic stretching warm-up. Then Jason joined me as I walked around. After several loops of walking, I did a couple of short jogs (maybe a minute or so each). After a few more quick stretches and a bathroom break, I made my way to the start area. I took things nice and easy for the first mile. The course was pretty evenly divided between road and trail, so I wanted to conserve my energy for the trail. It was a great course - the same as when I ran it two years ago. I really didn't feel tired until the last half mile. I kept going, even passed two other runners at the very last minute, and sprinted the last 30 seconds until I was across the finish line. It wasn't a PR, but I didn't expect it would be. I greatly improved upon my time from two years ago (time in 2010 = 36:45) and I ran the whole thing. I finished 24 out of 58 women, and I was 10 out of 24 in my age group. It was a great day!
