Goofing off but eating just as much and trying to get as much sleep as possible? Wish I could do it 24/7!

I've never tapered, but my son has many, many times. He always has his best times of the season after a good taper. He eats the same amount, but less yardage and more rest. He also stops all dryland during his taper. Have fun with it!

@pj - you should pick a meet and give it a go. if done correctly, they can lead to amazing results (as i'm sure you already know).

Awe, maybe one day. I have no desire to race again anytime soon. Maybe this fall or winter, but this summer, it's just all about having fun and keeping my body in shape. I have so many flights and trips planned, I just cannot stay on a steady schedule to even train every day..

  4. #dailymission This is a perfectly timed question. I absolutely despise tapering. I don't think I will do it any more except for really important races.

  5. #dailymission What thoughts do you have on tapering? Like most ppl, i'll say it's hard to taper probably cause the brain is used to the workout juices. But logically, a taper for a big ra... read more

  7. #dailymission Tapering is OK in moderation. Don't want to over do it.

  8. #dailymission hate it. I always feel like I'm forgettin how to run and my legs won't work come race day

  9. #dailymission My thoughts on tapering are that I look forward to them, enjoy them, and imagine myself powering for the race as I rest and eat as well as I can.

  10. #dailymission I enjoy the taper. I don't know what the rest of you are complaining about.

  11. #dailymission I'm definitely in the minority here, but I kind of love tapering. Sure, I feel sluggish and lazy, and I don't get that endorphin rush that comes with running, but by the tim... read more

My races aren't as big as yours but I still get nervous the morning of a race or even the morning of a big training day. I think it's just the way it goes. Good luck!

I do taper a bit, or at least reduce the intensity or number of workouts for an important event. Sometimes though, I don't when I consider that event to be training for a longer race. I try and listen to what this old body is telling me and go for it. I usually go to do my personal best, not to be competitive.

I agree Mindy. I do taper to the extent I change my workouts based on what my body tells me. Every race is different and my goals change based on the situation. I just don't completely back off long runs as part of a formal marathon taper.
