#dailymission Thumbs down. Not only is it a safety risk, many races are organized to raise money for a charity. Besides, you might actually PR that run, and then it won't even count! Boo.

#dailymission I haven't ever run as a bandit in a race, but I have to admit I have thought about doing it, especially in the more expensive races. I always pay if I run in a race, but I have... read more

#dailymission Thumbs down, usually... I have no issue with people jumping in on longer races to provide motivation to a friend; just stay out of the way of other runners and don't use the aid... read more

#dailymission - Down, definitely. It's like wearing a shirt from a race one hasn't raced, or worse, exploiting the RDs, volunteers, and runners who registered fair and square.

#dailymission Thumbs down for me. I either pay for the race, or run the route on my own...no bandito for me.

#dailymission Down! If you think thumbs up - try organising a race & see if you like free loaders!!

Ouch - not good Ruth I agree. There's a lot of work & costs which people need to share.

I wouldn't recommend it.2 people liked what Karlee said-
I have never done it. Kind of sort of wished 4 of my girls would have joined me individually miles 8-13 at the 1/2 this spring. After the article in a recent Runners World I told them not to do it. Though I did appreciate the bits that Fernando ran with me and others.

I did it a couple times back in college when I was broke, but still wanted to run a 10k. I usually started after the other runners and ducked out instead of crossing the finish line. No water or snacks either for me. Bandit etiquette.
I did run with my kids a couple times where I registered them, but not myself.12 months ago • Like

#dailymission ~ Down for sure. And I shouldn't have to explain why. It's just lame.

I do this periodically, but usually involves running with a registered runner. I get the opposition however.

That said, I think it would be fun to enter a race dressed in a burglar costume as an anti-bandit and ham it up, maybe paired up with someone chasing me in a keystone cop outfit. :)

#dailymission- running a race without paying? No, pay for the race. Unless its 1967 and women aren't allowed to run marathons. THEN, bandit to show those suckers how a girl can run.

I'm with you. I notice it most in the Chicago Marathon when the streets are already jammed with runners.
