Do you use a log for your food intake? If so why and which one?

Sometimes, if I see my weight is creeping up, I will keep track of my daily calories in my own log. Otherwise, I just ... read more

  2. #dailymission I use a fork for food intake? It fits in my mouth. I use the one with three prongs and sometimes I use a plastic one. I tried a log but it was way to big for my mouth.

  3. #dailymission My fitness pal... although sometimes it just depresses me how much I eat. :p I do love the ease of barcode scanning and how supportive the community is there. :)

  4. #dailymission, I've done this a couple times and just get bored with it. If I start feeling out of whack, I start to pay more attention to what I'm eating. So not really. I just like self... read more

I've been recommended that just recently, I think my husband is going to look into it because between the two of us, he's the app guy. I like using my Fitbook, but will have to look into it too!

I have used it in the past but never stick with it! I am way better at eating way too much than I am logging all those calories! :)

I tried Paleo for awhile, and learned a lot. Amazing how much food you have to eat if you stop eating cereal grains, and make up the difference with fruits and vegetables. I think Paleo's ban on dairy, beans, and potato are unsupportable, but that's a different story.

Thanks guys! This app makes it so easy! There is a bar code scanner so you just scan the food you are eating. I tried this app last year and the scanner wasn't on it and it had limited food. It's been improved a lot! Look me up Kristin! I'll be on there. :-)

Interestingly, I have slowly been changing my diet from "traditional Western" (pasta, cheese, carbs, white meat) to a more Paleo/Primal diet (veggies, fish, meat, low carbs (but a lot of rice)) and it has been working really well for me. I think I was deficient in protein before. I am not as hungry now as I was. We never ate a lot of processed food but we eat even less now.

I never have tracked my diet so I can't be sure, but I can say that now that I am eating more fat and a bit more meat (and a lot more fish) and fewer carbs (in terms of bread, pasta, etc) and a lot more eggs, I am not nearly as hungry as I used to be and I have lost a lot of weight. The biggest change for me has been cutting out bread, cheese and beer (I drink about half as much beer as I did a year ago). We were fairly strict lacto-ovo vegetarians a year ago.

I would say it is not so much that you have "cut down on carbs", as it is that you cut out the crappy ones. :-) A decade or two ago, everyone wanted to "cut down on fat", but as you have seen yourself, it's the quality that's key, not the quantity.

your stomach is a very good indicator of proper eating. having it get pi$$ed at you interferes so much with your routine.☺

I use www.fitday.com because I find writing down what I eat, tracking my calories, and adjusting them to hit my goal is the only way I have been successful. I have lost 13 pounds in 7 weeks.

Alos, the rule of thumb that I have seen is that a 1 pound loss = 20sec/mile improvement in speed. Not a rule but a guideline. Gook luck and press on!

  18. #dailymission I used to, now I do it just by feel... the scale and the mirror will tell me if I am doing it right.

  19. #dailymission HA! If I had a food log, after every weekend it would send me a progress report reading, "You know...Bacardi is NOT a food group."
