Have you discovered the joys of the ice bath?

  1. #dailymission -- Not for me. My heart would 'splode.

  2. #dailymission Ice baths are great for sore muscles but I'm not sure if I like how that body part looks from shrinkage.

  3. #dailymission I did try it after a marathon and ended up getting a cold the next day. I felt like total crap. Coincidence? I don't know but I'm not going to try it again.

  4. #dailymission Sometimes I like to swim across lakes because it seems like fun, oh and I also like to do butterfly at random times during siwms.

  5. #dailymission Not a ice bath but I would turn the shower as cold as it gets after the shock it feels good and really helps with not being sore the next day!!FYI Nike stopped doing ice baths 18 mont... read more

That's like asking if you have discovered the joys of shrinkage.

  7. #dailymission: yes, thanks to the big J. A fargin NIGHTMARE in the winter months, more bearable in the summer. Almost pleasant when followed by a couple hours watching softball

  8. #dailymission Have you discovered the joys of the ice bath? Only once - after racing Pikirmi distance. ;o)

Why did the half-way point to Athens have to be Pikirmi? And why do we call it a Marathon? Why not an 'Athens'? Then we could all run half-Ath's! ;-)

Exactly Rick. Feet and ankles I can do. No way my boys are ever going to experience an ice bath. They don't deserve that.

I love an ice bath. Granted, I don't have to worry they way you guys do, but it's amazing how much better my legs feel if I do an ice bath after a long run. A dip in the Atlantic Ocean also works quite well! ;-)

  12. #dailymission yes but kind-of a hassle to do after EVERY long/tough run (aka the ones where you need it the most).. but for the most part have been satisfied w the results

  13. #dailymission Ice baths....how I hate/love them. When I'm into training and my long runs are in the double digits I'll do them after the long run and for whatever reason it works for me.... read more

I hate that I love the ice bath after a long run (or is that I love to hate it...) but the theory that I heard was the sudden contraction of your muscles from the ice bath flushes out all the lactic acids and then when you get out your muscles pull in a fresh blood supply. So as you said, you're increasing circulation. It took me a while to get used to them, and once I get running again it'll take time to readjust - but they work for me. I feel great later that day after an ice bath.
